Born in Israel in 1971 Gili Yaari received his Bachelor of Sciences degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at Ben-Gurion University in 1997. Gili started his photography career as a freelance documentary photographer in 2005. In 2007 Gili started shooting editorial for the Jerualem based press photo agency ‘Flash90′.
Today, working as a freelance photographer, Gili specializes in documentary and editorial photography focusing mainly on social and humanitarian issues, documenting human aspects of the complex Israeli reality.
Yaari’s pictures appeared in publications including New York Times, The Times, Corriera Della Sera, Financial Times, Les Echoes, VISION china and Private Magazine as well as in many Israeli publications.
Yaari’s documentary project “Betty” has participated in The Save a Child’s Heart (SACH) International Photography Exhibition which is a joint project of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and SACH, launched as part of Israel’s 60th anniversary celebrations, traveling around the world in five copies.
Yaari was awarded honorable mentions in several international photo contests, among them PX3, Prix de la Photographie Paris and IPA, International Photography Awards.
Gili is currently based in Tel Aviv.
